Investment team

AMP Capital’s dedicated infrastructure investment team is situated in nine locations globally. It employs over 45 investment professionals with experience and expertise spanning a diverse range of disciplines. Our specialist knowledge and experience is essential in identifying, acquiring and managing the best opportunities for our funds and clients. The team has expertise and in-depth knowledge across a broad range of sectors, lifecycles and regions.

Philip Garling

Philip Garling, B.Build FAIB, FAICD, FIE Aust, AFAIM

Global Head of Infrastructure

Phil is responsible for the overall infrastructure business and has been with AMP Capital since 2002. Phil has over 25 years experience in infrastructure spanning project management, construction, strategy, development and investment and funds management in Australia, Europe and Asia. In Australia, Phil is a director of the Australia Pacific Airports Corporation Ltd and Chairman of the listed entity Diversified Utility & Energy Trusts (DUET) as well as several other of AMPCI’s global investments. He is also the Chairman of AMPCI’s Infrastructure Investment Committee.

Prior to joining AMP, Phil was Chief Executive Officer of Tenix Infrastructure and was also a long-term senior executive with Lend Lease Corporation, culminating in his role as CEO of Lend Lease Capital Services, with development and investment management responsibility for a number of infrastructure projects in the region. He also spent two years in Singapore developing Lend Lease’s Asian infrastructure strategy.

Rob Gregor

Rob Gregor, MComm, ASIA

Head of Infrastructure, Europe

Based in London, Rob is responsible for managing the European infrastructure business of AMP Capital and is also the manager of the Strategic Infrastructure Trust of Europe (SITE). Rob is currently a director of a number of European portfolio companies including Wales and West Utilities, Compania Logistica de Hidrocarburos, and Angel Trains.

He has over 16 years of investment management and capital markets experience and joined the AMP Group in 1997. Rob has been responsible for establishing the AMP Capital European Infrastructure Team and Office, SITE and the European infrastructure investment programme. Rob is a dual British and Australian national and has worked in London for 10 years including time at Henderson Global Investors where he was responsible for the global strategic development of the business and corporate finance/M&A. Prior to joining AMP, Rob worked for Bankers Trust, Ernst and Young, and TNT Limited.

Anoop Seth

Anoop Seth, MMS (Fin)

Co-Head of Infrastructure, Asia

Anoop spearheads AMP Capital’s infrastructure investments in Asia, and is Co-Head of the Asian Giants Infrastructure Fund. He joined AMP Capital Investors in 2007 from ABN AMRO, where he was Executive Director responsible for public sector businesses in India. A key achievement was his role in advising the Government of India during the recent privatisation of the Mumbai and Delhi airports, India’s largest privatisation to date.

Anoop has previously worked as Vice President with Bechtel Enterprises, focussing on equity investment opportunities in a range of infrastructure sectors including airports, power, rail and water both within India and the UK. As Vice President Finance of Reliance Industries, Anoop was a senior member of the financing team for the US$4b integrated petrochemical and infrastructure complex at Jamnagar. Anoop has also been CFO of Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation (IDFC), India’s premier infrastructure financing company.

Xiao Wei

Xiao Wei, MBA, M.ACCTG, CPA

Co-Head of Infrastructure, Asia

As Co-Head of Asian Infrastructure and the Asian Giants Infrastructure Fund, Wei is based in Beijing, China. Wei has worked on developing, investing, and operating China-based infrastructure projects for over 15 years and served on various boards as Chairman, Vice Chairman and Director.

Prior to joining AMP Capital, Wei worked on developing clean-energy projects in China for offshore investors. As the former Chief Executive Officer of AES China Generating Company Limited and China Country Manager of AES, a US based company with operations in 29 countries, Wei developed energy and infrastructure projects and managed investment operations. As Vice President and China Country Head for Meiya Power Company, Wei led project development and operations in China. AMP Capital was an indirect investor of Meiya Power Company through its investment in the Asia Infrastructure Fund. Prior to Wei’s work in the energy and infrastructure sectors, he worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers. .

Paul Foster

Paul Foster, MA (International Politics), BComm, ASIA

Head of Portfolio Management

Paul Foster manages the Portfolio Management team responsible for AMP Capital’s Australian based pooled institutional products, retail products and separate account mandates, as well as overseeing investment strategy and processes with respect to Australia and New Zealand. Paul works closely with the broader global team to generate opportunities to package and deliver infrastructure investment opportunities to existing and new clients. Paul is a member of the Infrastructure Investment Committee and has more than 18 years of financial markets and asset management experience across mainstream and alternative asset classes. Paul managed AMP Capital’s Infrastructure Equity Fund between 2003 and 2008 and was also responsible for managing AMP’s private equity fund of funds program prior to joining the Infrastructure team.

Prior to joining AMP Capital in 2000 he worked for Macquarie Bank and Perpetual Investments in funds management roles.

David Bartholomew

David Bartholomew, BEcon (Hons) MBA

DUET Chief Operating Officer

David is the COO for the listed energy utility, DUET which is jointly managed by AMPCI. David has extensive experience in the utilities sector. He is a Director of each of DUET’s asset companies (United Energy, Multinet Gas, Dampier-Bunbury Pipeline, Alinta Gas Networks and Duquesne Light) and in his role as COO, has responsibility for the oversight and management of the operating performance and results of each company.

Prior to joining the DUET team, David was Director of Infrastructure at Hastings Funds Management for 5 years, during which time he was instrumental in the establishment and IPO of the Hastings Diversified Utilities Fund. He held senior management roles for a number of unlisted funds within the Hastings group and had a range of related asset management and investment evaluation responsibilities. Prior to joining Hastings Funds Management, David worked for the Lend Lease group, the Boston Consulting Group and BHP Minerals.

Nish Patel

Nish Patel, BSc (Econ) Hons, ACA

Chief Operating Officer

Nish is based in our Beijing office and is the Head of Infrastructure business, China. He is responsible for managing AMP Capital’s relationship with China Life, and jointly reviewing and assessing infrastructure opportunities. In addition, he is also responsible for establishing external networks and relationships for sourcing deal-flow in the China market. Nish has over 20 years’ of funds management, investment banking and financial services experience. He is a Director of The Infrastructure Fund of India and is a member of the AMP Capital Infrastructure Investment Committee. Nish has held various roles with AMP Capital for over the 8 years including Chief Operating Officer for Infrastructure and Chief Financial Officer for AMP Capital.

Nish worked in senior roles at Thorn-EMI Asia Pacific as Finance and IT Director focusing on strategy implementation, mergers and acquisitions; General Manager of Finance & Strategy at David Jones, and Chief Financial Officer at HFC Inc, a US financial services organisation.

Greg Maclean

Greg Maclean, BSc

Head of Research, Infrastructure

Greg Maclean joined AMP Capital as Head of Research, Infrastructure expanding the team’s investment research capabilities. Prior to this appointment he worked as a consultant on many AMP Capital Infrastructure acquisitions and restructurings. Greg has also assisted in strategic projects including the successful spin off of AMP Capital’s listed energy entity, Diversified Utility and Energy Trusts (DUET), and with portfolio construction. Greg brings particular focus on the impact of operational factors on Infrastructure’s investments and clarification of overall risk as well as finding hidden value.

Greg’s corporate background includes significant experience at a senior level with Lend Lease and in joint venture activities of Lend Lease and the French company Suez.

Warwick Mancini

Warwick Mancini, BALaw (Hon)

Head of Unlisted Investment Specialists

Warwick Mancini, Head of Investment Specialists for Unlisted Assets, Infrastructure & Private Debt, acts as the interface between the origination, product, portfolio management and sales & marketing teams to ensure that information and knowledge are properly transferred between clients and AMP Capital.

Warwick has over 12 years of corporate advisory experience in the banking and legal world, working on both infrastructure and private equity transactions. He joined AMP Capital in July 2009 from Macquarie Group Limited, where he worked in the New York and London offices, both originating and executing transactions as well as marketing to third party investors and raising co-investment equity. Prior to joining Macquarie, Warwick worked in the mergers & acquisitions team of a top tier New York law firm.
